Crime spree leads to charges for Grande Prairie man

Jun 10, 2019 | 4:34 PM

What RCMP are calling a two-day crime spree has led to a string of charges against a Grande Prairie man.

Police say on May 31 at around 3 a.m. they came across a man loading stolen items into a cargo trailer, which had also been stolen.

The man took off in a stolen pick-up, driving in what police describe as β€œan extremely dangerous manner.”

That truck was found abandoned near Clairmont.

A report of another stolen vehicle came in a short time later. Police located it, puling a stolen travel trailer. The driver fled, hitting another vehicle.

At 3:20 am on June 1, that same stolen truck was used to ram three RCMP vehicles and took off again.

A man was arrested at a Grande Prairie home that evening without any more trouble.

Robert Wade Stewart, 31, is facing 26 charges, including five counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, three more of flight from police, along with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer counts.

Stewart has been remanded and is due in court June 19.
