Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says his government has begun negotiations to try to offload crude-by-rail contracts signed by the former NDP government.
The United Conservative Party promised during the provincial election campaign to scrap the plan to lease 44-hundred rail cars to get more oil to market.
The party calls it a catastrophic mistake.
Kenney says his government is in confidential negotiations with the private sector about taking over the contracts.
