Eleven men face charges relating to prostitution in Grande Prairie
Eleven men ranging from 20 to 65 years of age are all face sex offence charges after the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit responded to concerns made by residents about “criminal activity” taking place in the downtown area of Grande Prairie.
The RCMP say in a release that they received help from the General Investigation Section, the Community Policing Unit, and on-duty officers to charge the eleven men each with a count of Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration. There was also one charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
“This initiative supports crime reduction strategies to protect vulnerable sex trade workers in the City of Grande Prairie,” said interim Superintendent Gregory Towler, officer in charge of the Grande Prairie Detachment. “We will continue to work with community partners, such as PACE to deter this type of crime in the future.”
This enforcement initiative is in line with the Grande Prairie Detachment’s Crime Reduction Strategy. The release goes on to say that members of Grande Prairie RCMP are committed to identifying those who are causing the most harm in our community and to targeting their illegal activities.
