Grande Prairie woman wins $1 million off scratch ticket from Great Northern Casino

A Grande Prairie woman is now set for life.

Darlene Veinotte recently won $1 million on a SET FOR LIFE lottery ticket.

She purchased two $5 SET FOR LIFE Zing scratch tickets from the Great Northern Casino. One was a non-winner, but the other was about to pay off big time.

“I started scratching the tickets; one of them wasn’t a winner, but I saw that this one was,” she said. “I used the WCLC Lottery Manager app on my phone to check it a couple of times.”

Veinotte had three ‘Set For Life’ symbols on her ticket.

She was in her pj’s but quickly got dressed again and ran out to double check the ticket.

With the winning ticket, she could choose $1,000 per week for 25 years, or a single payment of $1 million. She opted for the $1 million single payment.

“My husband was working out of town, and I needed to be sure it was true before I called him,” she said. “When I came home again, I called and told him I won—and that he didn’t have to work anymore.”

Veinotte says for the first time in 39 years they will be mortgage and debt-free. She also plans on helping her kids out.

“Those are all dreams come true.”
