RV batteries becoming hot item for thieves in Grande Prairie

Batteries from RVs and holiday trailers are becoming a popular item for thieves within the Swan City.

Grande Prairie RCMP have been called to a number of incidents from all across GP of late, having reported to approximately 20 incidents. No timeline of how long this has been occurring was released.

RCMP continue to investigate these incidents and encourage the public to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.

Some tips they provide to keep your personal property safe include:

  • Turn on outside lights at night
  • Install a timer for lights
  • Park recreational vehicles in sight and chain to something if unable to store indoors
  • Install surveillance cameras
  • Engrave items with your name or a serial number
  • Keep a detailed list of property including photos and serial numbers
  • Follow a nightly checklist to ensure everything is locked up
