Aebly leads after day one at Evergreen Park; Bensmiller leads WPCA in Medicine Hat

Derek Aebly is the leader after day one of Boots and Moccasins, the second stop of the season in Grande Prairie for the Western Chuckwagon Association.

Aebly posted a time of 1:17.70 in heat five at Evergreen Park last night. Todd McCracken sits in second after a time 1:17.90, while Dean Dreger finished just .02 of a second slower than McCracken and is in third.

Racing continues tonight at Evergreen Park, beginning at 7 p.m. The championship heat will run tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile in Medicine Hat, the Western Professional Chuckwagon Association was able to get its first full day of racing in, after weather cancelled out the heats from Thursday.

Kurt Bensmiller is the top driver after day one. He posted a time of 1:02.65, followed up by Vern Nolin at 1:02.70 and Codey McCurrach in third with a time of 1:02.98.

Kirk Sutherland is the top Peace Country driver, sitting in 11th place after posting a time of 1:04.35. Mitch Sutherland sits in 14th, Cody Ridsdale in 19th, Mike Vigen in 27th and Mark Sutherland in 28th.

The aggregate has been shortened to two runs for this weekend after the cancellation of Thursday heats. The top 3 drivers in the aggregate standings after Saturday will go into Sunday’s championship final heat.
