Trans Mountain expansion won’t fix problems with Canadian oil; expert

An analyst says the expected approval tomorrow of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion won’t be enough to fix Western Canada’s oil transportation woes.
Samir Kayande, a director with R.S. Energy Group, says the expansion to triple capacity of the existing Trans Mountain pipeline will help with market access when it comes on stream.
But he says that likely won’t happen until 2022 and could be held up by more legal challenges.
Kayande also says even if the pipeline expansion gets built, it won’t address the general downturn in energy investing in North America and the lower quality of Canada’s resources compared to premier American oil and gas basins.
