ASIRT looking into death of Calgary woman who fell off balcony
CALGARY – Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a woman who went over a balcony and died as Calgary police were trying to take her into custody.
Police say they were granted a drug-related warrant to search a fifth-floor apartment building in the city’s downtown.
They say they encountered a man outside the apartment and arrested him in a shooting and on outstanding warrants, but a woman who was part of the investigation was still inside the apartment.
Officers surrounded the unit and tried to get the woman to surrender but, at some point, she went over the balcony and was found critically injured on the ground below.
