Sexsmith pays tribute to Claude Lagace
A Tree Dedication Ceremony was held Monday in Sexsmith in memory of Mayor Claude Lagace.
Lagace had one term on Sexsmith Town Council, from 1995 to 1997, before being elected continuously for the past 17 years. He served from 2001 to 2006 as a Councillor and 2007 to 2018 as Mayor.
Lagace passed away on September 29 at Points West Hospice at the age of 66.
“It was an honour for the Town of Sexsmith and Council to celebrate and remember our former Mayor, Claude Lagace, by dedicating Arbour Park in his memory and planting a tree in his name. This park was a project Mayor Lagace completed during his tenure on council. His vision included a place of remembering but also a place where new memories can be made and stories can be told of those we remember. It was only fitting that the Town honour him in this way. We were also blessed to have numerous Mayors, Reeves, and councillors from the area, MP Chris Warkentin, and representatives from meaningful organizations Mayor Lagace was involved with share some highlights and memories. His wife, daughters and grandchildren as well as extended family also attended and shared,” said Sexsmith Mayor Kate Potter in a written statement.
