City seeking public input on Snow and Ice Control through survey

Jun 27, 2019 | 12:10 PM

thThe City of Grande Prairie wants to know whether residents are happy, or unhappy, about snow and ice removal in the city.

That is the first step in the City’s scheduled review of the policy for Snow and Ice Control in the Swan City.

“Part of that was to produce a satisfaction survey, just to kind of gauge the opinion of the people of Grande Prairie to see how satisfied, or unsatisfied they are with the service,” said Transportation Manager Robert Carroll. “We will use that information, from the survey, when we are putting the final touches on the revisions to the policy.”

Carroll says the survey takes just a few minutes, with questions broken down into the four categories of service.

“We have our priority one, priority two, priority three roads and also our residential areas,” said Carroll. “We asked, for instance in our residential area; Are you satisfied with the service you are presently getting? Then we asked for areas that are of concern.”

He does add though that if residents would like to see more service this winter, it could mean higher taxes.

“One of the things that we want to make clear to people, is that the service that we are providing now is based on the budget that we get. Any increase to the service requires an increase to our budget,” said Carroll. “Or, maybe people think that service is too frequent and a decrease to their taxes is more important.”

The survey is available through the City’s engagement website. When on the site, residents can see current service levels the city offers and how much they spend for that service. Results from the 2018 budget survey are also posted there and a chart that breaks down the average cost per month, per household for different City services is also posted.

The survey can be found here.
