ALERT busts drug-trafficking ring with ties to Little Smoky

Jul 11, 2019 | 2:05 PM

ALERT says they have busted a drug-trafficking ring that spanned Alberta and B.C.

Project Embrace was completed after nine months of probing an Edmonton-based operation, which led to the arrest of six people and a seizure of over $1 million in drugs and cash.

The investigation has Peace Country ties, as investigators say drugs came in from B.C. and were distributed to Little Smoky, along with the northeastern Alberta communities of Bonnyville, Lloydminster, St. Paul, Cold Lake and Frog Lake.

Items seized in the bust include:

  • 6.5 kilograms of cocaine
  • 2 kilograms of methamphetamine
  • 18 kilograms of a cocaine buffing agent
  • $342,982 cash
  • a 2007 Volvo XC90 with a hidden mechanized compartment.
