Bait quad used to track theft suspects

Jul 12, 2019 | 11:19 AM

Beaverlodge RCMP say a bait quad led them to a couple of theft suspects.

Police put out a quad equipped with a GPS tracker in an area near Hythe June 14. Mounties say this same area had seen a dozen break-ins in less than a month.

RCMP say within hours of being put in place, the quad was stolen. It was tracked and recovered by Beaverlodge RCMP, the Western District Crime Reduction Team, and Police Dog Services from the Grande Prairie detachment.

Two Horse Lake men are facing charges.

Thirty-year-old Darcy Julien Kelly Wanihandi is due in Grande Prairie court July 31 on a possession of property obtained by crime count.

Forty-three-year-old Sheldon Lyle Wilson Ferguson is still at large. He is wanted on theft and possession of property obtained by crime charges.

Anyone who knows where he might be is asked to contact the Beaverlodge RCMP at 780-354-2485 or to call their local detachment. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
