Northern Twistmasters have massive weekend at National Championships

Plenty of hardware will be coming back to Grande Prairie following the 2019 Canadian National Armwrestling Championships which were held in Edmonton over the weekend.

Many members of the Northern Twistmasters claimed hardware over the weekend, but one of the biggest performances of the Championships came from Annie Beals.

She claimed 4 gold medals in the Senior Women’s 60kg and 70kg divisions, plus earned the Most Sportsmanlike Award for the entire tournament.

Club President earned his 2nd consecutive National crown, winning the Men’s Masters 176lb right arm division. He also had a pair of 3rd places in two other categories.

Maria Peterson found the top of the podium with a gold in the Senior Women’s Superheavyweight class. This was Peterson’s 4th National title in as many years.

Logan McCallum showed off his strength in both arms as he won both titles in the 80kg youth under 18 boy’s class.

Outside of the competition a pair of Peace Country residents were recognized and inducted into the Canadian Armwrestling Hall of Fame.

Northern Twistmasters founder and Coach Allen Barker was honoured for all his work in establishing 5 clubs in 5 separate cities in the past 40 years, and for winning over 20 National titles.

Florence Obniwka-Blaise was also inducted. She earned 8 National titles and 3 World titles in her armwrestling career.
