Two toddlers found dead in water at Maskwacis

Jul 17, 2019 | 6:13 PM

A family from the Samson Cree Nation is dealing with tragedy following the deaths of two toddlers on Tuesday.

RCMP responded at 6:44 p.m. to a call for assistance about two missing children, who were subsequently located by the family in a body of water on their property.

Efforts were made on scene to resuscitate the children, who were taken to hospital where they were declared dead.

Maskwacis RCMP GIS and the Major Crimes Unit are investigating, but police say preliminary information reveals no indication foul play was involved.

RCMP confirm that the children were siblings.

“This is an extremely tragic incident and the outcome of the search for these children was not what we hoped for,” says Inspector James McLaren, Officer in Charge of the Maskwacis RCMP. “Right now a family, and the whole community, is in shock and mourning and we hope that their privacy will be respected.”
