Local Miss Universe Canada delegate looking for votes

Jul 25, 2019 | 10:39 AM

A Peace Region woman competing for the title of Miss Universe Canada 2019 is now counting on fans and followers to secure a spot as a semi-finalist.

Samantha Stokes, from High Prairie is hoping to win the People’s Choice Contest to advance to the top 20 semi-finalists by gathering the most votes by August 15th, 2019.

Stokes is no stranger to pageants. Having taken home to title of Miss Grande Prairie Stompede in 2014, she says the win in Grande Prairie helped her to win the title of Miss Rodeo Canada a year later.

“They truly set me up for success. Winning that title allowed me to compete at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 2015 for the title of Miss Rodeo Canada, and actually the Grande Prairie Stompede is now my major sponsor in my quest to become Miss Universe Canada 2019.”

Having completed two years of her Bachelor of Education Degree, Stokes plan is to complete her degree in Education and further her studies in the field of Animal Assisted Wellness. She says her ultimate goal is to start a program of her own based around Equine Therapy and Healing to help special needs children.

“I gained my passion of working with special needs kids during my reign of Miss Rodeo Canada. I did several hospital visits across four different countries and it’s very rewarding.”

Voting for the People’s Choice Contest can be done through the Miss Universe Canada website, and is open until August 15th.
