Exactly claims the Alberta Derby

Jul 29, 2019 | 7:21 AM

It was a beautiful day for horse racing at Evergreen Park Sunday as the 2019 Alberta Derby took centre stage.

Following the scratch of #4 “Its All Good”, the four remaining horses raced just over a mile for the massive pot of $50,000.

It was a tight race from start to finish as all four horses went stride for stride.

Coming down the stretch though it was the favourite “Exactly” who defeated “Striders Ride” by half a length to claim the Alberta Derby crown.

“The Hybrid”, who won the Grande Prairie Derby and is owned by Kelsey and Jason Coney of Grande Prairie finished 3rd but was bumped to 4th following an inquiry.

This was the 5th year that Evergreen Park has hosted the Alberta Derby.

Horse racing will continue next weekend at Evergreen Park with first post time on Fridays and Saturdays now being bumped up to 6 p.m. for the remainder of the racing season.
