Softball gold, swimming silver and bronze for local athletes at the Western Canada Summer Games

Team Alberta won the men’s softball gold medal Tuesday at the Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Alberta beat one of two teams from Saskatchewan 3-2 in the gold medal game.

Fairview’s Josh Kinee scored what proved to be the winning run.

Grande Prairie swimmer Jordan Greber won four medals, silver in the 1500 metre open water swim, the 1500 metre freestyle, and the 200 metre backstroke. She also took bronze in the 400 freestyle.

Five other athletes from the Peace are also chasing medals over the next few days.

Tyler Herron from the County of Grande Prairie and the baseball team started their games Wednesday.

Sexsmith’s Keyana Anderson and Grande Prairie’s Myha Sluik are in athletics. The Swan City’s Mairen Lawson will compete in triathlon. Those competitions start Thursday.

Grande Prairie’s Jason Pangracs is on the Alberta wrestling team. Matches will start on Friday.
