One person was killed and nine others hurt in fiery crash in southern Alberta
CEREAL, Alta. – An evacuation alert has ended after one person was killed and nine others were injured in a fiery crash that forced the closure of Highway 9 about 300 kilometres east of Calgary.
The Alberta government ordered the evacuation of the hamlet of Chinook due to the collision on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., which involved 10 vehicles including three semi-trailer trucks.
Two of the more seriously injured were flown to hospital and the others were transported by ground ambulance.
RCMP say one of the trucks was carrying fuel, which ignited in the crash, causing several other vehicles to also catch on fire.
