Grande Prairie boy embarks on 184 km Dash to the Cache for Cancer

While most kids are sleeping in, or getting in some more time with their friends before back to school, 12-year-old Brysen Howe is spending the next five days walking to Grande Cache to raise money for cancer research.

The idea for Dash to the Cache for Cancer started after Brysen and his family visited the Terry Fox memorial in Ontario.

“I was kind of thinking well I should do something,” he said.

Brysen said his dad had joked that he should walk to Grande Cache and call it ‘Dash to the Cache.’

“We all were like yeah it’s a good idea and ended up doing it.”

The Dash to the Cache for Cancer will make its way down Highway 40 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. His plan is to walk 30 to 40 km a day and finish the 184 km trek on August 31.

His family will be joining him, along with Grovedale and Grande Cache fire departments and Harold’s Towing will have electronic billboards in front and behind him so motorists know to slow down.

Motorists are asked to watch for Brysen and his crew starting tomorrow (Aug 27) at 8 a.m. along Highway 40.

Donations can be made by visiting his Facebook page: Brysen Howe for the Cure. His original goal was to raise $2000 and as of Monday the fundraiser had brought in close to $10,000 already.
