Teddy for Toonie fundraiser to donate some funds to Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation

Aug 26, 2019 | 12:22 PM

For the first time in the 20 year history of the ATB Financial Teddy for a Toonie fundraising campaign, money raised in Grande Prairie will stay in the community.

Close to $56,000 was raised in Grande Prairie, making it the top fundraising community for this year’s campaign.

ATB Financial Vice president of North Markets Nizar Abouchami says the the majority of the money raised in Grande Prairie was done in one night.

“The creativity of our team members in Grande Prairie led to an event called “Hillbilly Wedding Murder Mystery”, which raised a majority of the funds raised in Grande Prairie.”

$178,000 was raised by northern Alberta branches.

Abouchami says a portion of the funds raised in northern Alberta will go towards the creation of a special feature in the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

“It will help create a Youth Mental Health Lounge. It will be used by children and youth for group activities, as well as having a private room for patients, their families, and the health care providers.”

$644,000 was raised province wide through the campaign, which provides money for children’s hospitals in Alberta such as the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton and the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.
