Pirates & Storm look to raise funds for Kidsport with Charity Fast Ball game

Aug 27, 2019 | 11:35 AM

Tuesday night the PVI Pirates, who will be taking part in this week’s Canadian Fast Ball Championships, will see a different opponent across diamond from them.

The Pirates will face the Grande Prairie Storm in a charity game this evening to raise money for Kidsport.

“We had been talking to a few groups in our community for the past few weeks about doing a fundraiser as part of the Men’s and Master Men’s Canadian Championships. We wanted to support something in our community that supported kids involved in sport. So Kidsport was a natural fit,” explained Paul Therrian, Chair of the Men’s and Master Men’s Canadian Championships.

For the Storm, this gives the Junior A hokey club a little bit of a break away from the rink and a chance to bond on the ball diamond in a different setting.

“A lot of these kids were multi sport athletes growing up before they fully dedicated themselves to hockey. Some of them can swing a bat. They will be competitive and try hard no matter what,” stated Storm Business Manager Eric Hein.

The charity ball game begins at 6 p.m. from the South Bear diamond #1. The game is free to attend, but donations to Kidsport are welcome.
