Highway 40 Closed Due to ‘Serious’ Car Accident

UPDATE – Grande Prairie RCMP say clean up efforts are underway at the accident scene. Highway expected to stay closed for a few more hours.

RCMP, Fire and EMS personnel are on the scene of what is being described as a “Serious” motor vehicle accident south of Grande Prairie.

According to Grovedale Fire Department, the accident – which happened early Saturday morning – is on Highway 40, about 1 km south of Township road 692, which is also known as Fish Pond road.

The highway is closed in both directions, with a detour set up at Township road 692 for southbound traffic, and Township road 690 for northbound vehicles.
