Enrollments up at GPRC

Sep 10, 2019 | 1:14 PM

There are 2749 students currently enrolled at Grande Prairie Regional College.

President Don Gnatiuk says that is an increase of 253 from the 2496 students GPRC had this time a year ago.

“I think there’s an increased confidence in the Grande Prairie region. I think kids are going back to school and seeing their future that way. People, I think before, were a little worried about taking the time to go to school. Also, we are anticipating increased numbers coming out of the high school system.”

Gnatiuk says GPRC working towards university status also led to an enrollment increase.

“Since we’ve announced that we’re pursuing our own degrees and we’re heading towards university status, we’ve noticed that there’s been a bit of a change in the view on GPRC. I think people have confidence in their institution.”

Gnatiuk is in his final few months as GPRC President. He will retire no later than March 31, 2020. A firm date has not been set as a replacement has not been hired.
