Alberta RCMP officer charged with assault after altercation in his home

RCMP say a veteran Mountie just outside of Edmonton has been charged with assault.

Police say the man from the Strathcona detachment was involved in a fight at his home while off-duty.

Constable Matthew Howson, who is 35, is to appear in Sherwood Park provincial court on October 16th.

RCMP say his duty status is under review.

Howson has been a Mountie for 10 years.
