Peace Country still well represented on Football Alberta rankings

Peace Country high school football teams continue to make the climb up the Football Alberta Rankings.

Following a big 53-6 victory over High Prairie to move to 3-1 on the year, the GP Composite Warriors moved up two spots in the Tier I rankings to #8 in the province in the week three rankings.

Meanwhile in Tier IV, The Sexsmith Sabres moved themselves up another spot to #3, following a shutout victory over Peace River last week. The Sabres are now 2-0 to open the Mighty Peace Football League season.

Despite two big wins over both Hillside (Valleyview) and Notre Dame (Red Deer) this past week, the St Joe’s Celtics didn’t see any movement from their #2 spot in Tier II. Holy Trinity Academy of Okotoks continues to hold down the top spot.

The Celtics knocked off Hillside 41-0 on Thursday in Valleyview and thumped Notre Dame 49-13 at CKC Field on Saturday to move to 3-1 on the year. The Celts lone loss came at the beginning of the season against the #2 ranked team in Tier III, Holy Rosary from Lloydminster.

A full slate of games goes on Thursday in the MPFL, with a pair of games going at CKC Field. At 4 p.m. the St Joe’s Celtics host the #8 ranked team in Tier III, the Whitecourt Cats. That game will be followed by the GP Comp Warriors hosting Sexsmith.

Elsewhere, the PWA Titans travel to Peace River to battle the Pioneers, while the Hillside Cougars are home to High Prairie.
