Saints beat Storm at Revolution Place

Sep 24, 2019 | 1:21 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm are now 4-2 on the season after a 3-1 loss at home Monday night to Spruce Grove.

The Saints are now first in the North Division at 6-0, a game up on 5-0 Sherwood Park. The Storm are in third place.

Coach Matt Keillor is pleased with the work ethic and speed his team showed.

“Obviously, losing a defenceman in the first shift kind of hurt us and only having five guys the rest of the game. They got tired as the game went on and (we) tried our best to try to mitigate that. All in all, I can’t fault the effort.”

Defenceman Cade Mason was injured early in the game and did not return.

Ethan Strang scored Grande Prairie’s lone goal on a third-period power-play.

Keillor was glad to see the power-play unit find the back of the net after some recent struggles.

“We mixed it up and put four forwards and one d on the power play in the third. Again, with only having five d, we thought those guys were a little bit tired, so (we) put four forwards out there. Whether or not that made any difference, but it’s just a different look and switched a little bit of the tactics up a little bit.”

The Storm will be at the AJHL Showcase Thursday and Friday in Camrose.
