Beaverlodge decorator creates third award-winning gas station washroom

A local woman has now decorated three award-winning gas station restrooms.

Beaverlodge’s Susan Bradshaw, who owns Superior Interiors, has decorated gas station bathrooms in Valleyview, Whitecourt and Lac La Biche and they have all won Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom Contest.

The most recent winner was the washroom in Lac La Biche where Bradshaw gave the washroom a rustic feel using rope for detailing.

“I brought in a huge log and had help hollowing it out,” she explained that the 20-foot log was hung above the I-beam. “From there, everything kind of flowed together; the bathroom with its rustic doors and toilet paper rolls are rustic.”

She says her knack for decorating bathrooms began locally when she renovated the bathroom at the Wapiti Shell in Grande Prairie. From there, she moved on to renovate the washroom at the Valleyview Shell and just as she was finishing up there the contest came through.

Bradshaw says it would be too hard to pick a favourite as they are each a part of her.

“I can’t, each one has something different,” she said.

Bradshaw says she recently did a washroom in Red Deer where she used smart glass. The glass in the stall doors is clear, but when you close the door the glass fogs up for privacy. That restroom was too late to make the cut this year but could get nominated next year.
