Storm open AJHL Showcase tonight

Sep 26, 2019 | 12:31 PM

The Storm will head into the AJHL Showcase today with a record of four wins and two losses on the season.

That puts Grande Prairie in third place in the North Division behind two unbeaten teams, 6-0 Spruce Grove and 5-0 Sherwood Park.

Storm Coach Matt Keillor expects his team to be anxious to play at this event.

‘The kids should be chompin’ at the bit for sure. It’s a big part of the experience here. Every NCAA team will be there, so we expect the guys to be ready and to be energized and to show what they can do.”

Keillor agrees with the idea that the better the team plays, the more individuals get noticed.

“Everyone’s going to get plenty of opportunities. It’s no different than the end of the year. We tell the guys the longer this team is in the playoffs, the opportunities for NCAA or any advancement increases significantly. Out of sight, out of mind, if you’re not playing, they’re not watching you and they’re watching someone else.”

The Storm play Canmore tonight at 7 p.m. and Okotoks Friday night at 8 p.m.
