Sep 30, 2019 | 3:32 PM

Peace Regional RCMP arrested an area man accused of a spree of property crimes over the weekend.

At around 8:05 AM on Saturday, September 28, Peace Regional RCMP were called to a business in the West Hill Industrial Park of Peace River after reports of a break and enter in progress. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the suspect had been scared off by an employee and had fled on foot.

RCMP searched the surrounding area and discovered several vehicles had been broken into, and items were stolen from within.

Shortly after, the RCMP received multiple reports on a man acting suspiciously and stashing what appeared to be stolen property. Officers responded to the area and deployed the police dog service. The suspect was arrested and the stolen property was recovered.

Roderick Sorensen, a 24-year-old Peace River resident, was arrested on several outstanding warrants. He now faces new charges from Saturday’s incident, including mischief under $5,000, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, possession of break-in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of his recognizance.

Sorensen was held in custody over the weekend and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 30.

The RCMP is thanking the public for reporting the suspicious sightings that led to the arrest, adding that suspicious activities should be reported to local RCMP, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
