A national animal welfare advocacy group is denouncing the Alberta government’s plan to crack down on protesters who trespass on farms and agricultural land.
Animal Justice says the aim is to intimidate people who want to call attention to animal abuse when governments fail to take action.
Premier Jason Kenney says a bill will be introduced this fall that will include fines starting at 10,000 dollars along with potential jail time for such trespassing.
Kenney made the announcement at a farm near Fort Macleod, where dozens of people protesting the treatment of turkeys occupied a barn a month ago.
