Canadian champions to be decided in Teepee Creek this weekend

The best young rodeo riders from around western Canada are gathering in Teepee Creek this weekend.

They are taking part in the Canadian Junior Roughstock Championships tomorrow and Sunday.

Director Jodi Person says the 6 to 17-year-olds will be spread across various categories in saddle broncs, barebacks, and bull riding.

“There’s a peewee age group, which is six to nine (years old), a junior which is 10 to 11, and then seniors are 12 to 14 and then novice, 15 to 17.”

Person says the top finishers advance to the Junior World Finals in Las Vegas.

“We have one peewee spot and three junior, senior, and novice spots that will go forward to the Junior World Finals in Las Vegas in December, which is in conjunction with the NFR.”

Events actually start tonight with a banquet and sponsor appreciation tonight at the Jackpot Events Centre Competition starts tomorrow and Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Lyons Production Services Events Centre. Tickets are $10.00 at the door, with 10-and-under kids getting in free.
