St Joes and Sexsmith clash in MPFL action Friday

Oct 4, 2019 | 10:24 AM

An old rivalry will once again be renewed at CKC Field this afternoon.

The St Joe’s Celtics and Sexsmith Sabres will meet at 5:00 today in a battle of top five teams in their respective divisions. The Celtics come in as the number two team in Tier II. The Sabres enter as the fourth-ranked team in Tier IV.

It’s a game that promises to be another exciting one at CKC Field for the second straight week. The Celtics and Comp Warriors played a tightly contested game last Friday in which the Celtics were able to come away with a 28-14 win. St Joe’s scored the go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes to go in the game.

Meanwhile, the Sabres are coming off a convincing 46-0 win over the Peace Wapiti Titans last Thursday that moved them to 3-1 on the season.

The Titans kicked off this week’s Mighty Peace Football League schedule yesterday with a victory in High Prairie over the Renegades, 25-14. The Titans were down at halftime 14-13 but scored two touchdowns in the second half to claim the win.

Two other games go this afternoon in the MPFL. The Warriors travel to Whitecourt to face the Cats, while the Peace River Pioneers are home to Valleyview.
