A weekend to forget: Storm drop finale against Eagles in Banff

Oct 7, 2019 | 10:26 AM

It’s a weekend the Grande Prairie Storm are sure to want to move on from, as they leave Southern Alberta empty handed.

Alex Young and Owen Reith each had a pair of goals and a combined nine points for the Canmore Eagles, as they edged the Storm 6-4 Sunday afternoon in Banff.

The loss closed out the Storm’s three game in three-day road trip through the southern part of the province, where they went 0-3 and were outscored 21-6 on the weekend.

On Sunday the Storm found themselves trailing just 36 seconds into the game, as Young potted his first of the contest past Kaeden Lane to make it 1-0 for the home side. Jason Chu would respond two minutes later on the power play for the Storm to tie it up. Reith would then add his first of the game on the power play late in the frame, making it 2-1 Eagles after 20.

The Storm and Eagles each traded a pair of goals in the second to make it 4-3 after two. Jarin Sutton and Sam Erkkila scored for Grande Prairie.

Jared Bowman would then make it 5-3 for Canmore, beating Lane just 18 seconds into the third. Nathan Morgan would make it 5-4 with his fourth of the year midway through the period. Reith would score his second of the game in the final minute to ice it for the Eagles, however.

With that, the Storm now sit at 5-6-0 on the season and are in fifth in the AJHL North Division.

The team now returns home for four games in the Swan City, beginning on Wednesday night against the Drayton Valley Thunder. Action gets going at 7:30 p.m. from Revolution Place.
