CIBC Run for the Cure raises nearly $55,000 for breast cancer research

The 2019 CIBC Run for the Cure saw a great turnout, and raised a lot of money here in Grande Prairie.

Volunteer Run Director, Janice Lovejoy, says it was amazing to see the amount of participants who laced up their sneakers for Sunday’s run at Muskoseepi Park.

“We had 348 participants come out, that’s 100 more than last year, it was awesome. And we raised over $54,860, and there will still be more coming in after that.”

Lovejoy says they are still accepting donations, both online and in person at CIBC banks

The money raised goes to the Canadian Cancer Society, and will be used to fund breast cancer research projects across the country.

“Every year, people apply for these grants, and (the Canadian Cancer Society) goes over these grants, and decides who the money is going to go to and what research they’re doing. It’s used very well, the University of Toronto, the Toronto Hospital, and Edmonton and Calgary and Vancouver, they all receive money from this.”

Lovejoy adds that she was very pleased by the amount of money raised, and the turnout for the one and five kilometre runs through the park.

She also wishes to extend a thanks to everyone who came out and helped raise money to fight breast cancer.
