The North Peace Hockey League will be minus a team for the 2019-2020 season.

In a press release issued on Monday night, the Fort St. John Flyers have informed the league they will be taking a one-year absence from the league.

Flyers President Paul van Nostrand says that a lack of player availability is the main reason for stepping back this season.

“This decision was not taken lightly and the entire Flyers organization is extremely disappointed with this development,” said van Nostrand, in the release.

The announcement comes just ahead of the 2019-2020 schedule release, which is slated to come out on Wednesday. The schedule will now feature just six teams:

  • Grande Prairie Athletics
  • Dawson Creek Canucks
  • Grimshaw Huskies
  • Manning Comets
  • Falher Pirates
  • High Prairie Regals

The Flyers joined the league back in the 2004-05 season and had the longest streak of consecutive seasons in the NPHL.
