Beaverlodge’s Dani Smith and the Canadian Women’s Volleyball team are off to a strong start at the Continental Cup.

Canada defeated Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14) on Tuesday at Roberto Clemente Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to open the NORCECA Championship at 1-0.

Smith did not see the floor in the win, however.

Canada will play Costa Rica this afternoon at Noon mountain time and then Puerto Rico on Thursday to close out the round robin. The top three teams from this eight-team tournament after the championship round will then advance to the North American Qualifying tournament this January in the Dominican Republic for a chance to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
