Fish and Wildlife investigating after grizzly shot and killed

Oct 11, 2019 | 7:03 AM

Grande Cache Fish and Wildlife officers are investigating after a large male grizzly bear was found dead on October 2 along the Big Berland River, about one kilometre downstream of Highway 40.

They say the bear appeared to have been shot and left for a few days before being reported.

Grizzly bears are considered a threatened species in Alberta and hunting them is illegal, with the maximum penalty being a fine of $100,000 and/or two years in prison.

Grande Cache Fish and Wildlife are asking anyone with information to contact them at 780-827-3356 or call the Report-A-Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800.
