Smith, team Canada off to semis at Continental Cup.

Beaverlodge’s Dani Smith and the Canadian Women’s volleyball team took an important step towards qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.

They beat Mexico three games to one (25-20, 29-31, 25-17, 25-20) in quarterfinal action at the Continental Cup in Puerto Rico on Friday night.

Smith saw action in all four games for Canada, recording one kill, one block and one service ace.

The quarterfinal win also secured a spot for Canada in January’s NORCECA Final Four Olympic Qualifying tournament.
