Medicine Hat pair killed in Bassano crash

Bassano, AB – Two Medicine Hat natives are dead following a collision outside of Bassano Friday afternoon.

A 71-year-old man and 68-year-old woman were killed when the car they were traveling in was hit by a SUV when they attempted to turn west on Highway 1 from the Bassano Esso turnoff, according to Mounties.

RCMP say the SUV was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 1 when it struck the car with the two Hatters. The SUV was carrying two female passengers who both were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 58-year-old driver was unharmed.

Mounties report the incident occurred just after 4 p.m.

A RCMP traffic analyst was at the scene Friday conducting an examination of the collision.
