NWJHL adding two All-Star games to league showcase

Oct 16, 2019 | 12:29 PM

The North West Junior Hockey has made a couple of additions as they prepare for the second annual Showcase Weekend, which is now just over three weeks away.

In addition to the six league games to be played at the Crosslink County Sportsplex from November 8-10, NWJHL Commissioner and Vice President Jamie Salm says action will get started with an All-Star game on the Friday night.

“It’s going to be a nice touch, to showcase the top players from each team coming out on the ice and having a good, competitive battle,” said Salm.

Since the league held the inaugural showcase last year as a way for college and various other scouts to have a closer look at the league’s talent, Salm says the All-Star game helps further showcase the league’s top talent.

Another All-Star game the league is hoping to put together for that weekend is to showcase the talent from local Midget teams, with a game for the top players from the All Peace Hockey League.

“Which is big news because Midget aged players are graduating and they could be good potential candidates to move into the NWJHL.”

The game would go at 10 a.m. on Sunday the 10th, before the three games scheduled for that day.

Salm adds that it is important for the league to be able to attract and find the Peace Country’s top talent with an event like this and give players an opportunity to play close to home while growing in the sport.
