Wolves women’s soccer falls just short of postseason berth

Oct 21, 2019 | 6:46 AM

They came ever so close, but it just wasn’t enough for the GPRC women’s soccer team to make it to the postseason.

The Wolves dropped their regular-season finale 2-1 to the King’s University College in Edmonton on Sunday, falling just short of the playoffs as a result.

The match became a must-win for both the Wolves and Eagles, following GPRC’s loss to Concordia on Saturday. The Wolves came in three points up on King’s and needed a result of anything but a loss to clinch the final North Division playoff spot.

However, Michaela Anderson would seal the victory for the Eagles with a goal in the 83rd minute, giving them the tiebreaker in the standings and a chance to play in next weekend’s playoffs.

Mariah Kyllo scored the lone goal for the Wolves in the game.

The Wolves finish the season with a record of 5-5-2.

Meantime, the men’s side closed out their season on a winning note, beating TKU 4-2. Pieter Boone scored twice in the win.

The men’s team closes out their season with a record of 2-6-4, also falling short of a playoff spot.
