GPAC, PCFAC weekend recap

It was a busy weekend for Grande Peace Athletic Club and Peace Country Female Athletic Club teams. Here’s a wrap up of all the action from Saturday and Sunday:

Ernie’s Sports Experts Midget AAA Storm

Saturday the Storm opened the weekend with a 5-4 victory over the Sherwood Park Ennis Kings at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.

Ty Toews scored twice in the opening period to give the Storm a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. They would lead 5-2 after the second thanks to two goals from Sheldon Kwiatkowski, as well as one from Jayden Watson.

The Storm would then survive a late push from Sherwood Park to hold on for the win. Terris Lappenbush made 19 saves for the win.

On Sunday the team hit the road to St. Albert, where they fell 3-2 to the St. Albert Nektar Raiders. Hudson Foley and Kwiatkowski scored for the Storm in the loss.

The Major Midget AAA Storm now sit with a record of 5-2-0 on the year, good enough for second place in the Dodge (North) Division.

Up next: The Storm will host the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the CAC Gregg Distributors on Sunday at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at the Coca Cola Centre.

Boston Pizza Minor Midget Storm

The Minor Midget Storm were on the road for two games this weekend, in which they came back with a pair of losses.

Saturday they were in Edmonton, where they fell 9-6 to the Knights of Columbus Centennials. Braden Wabick scored twice for the Storm, while Connor Stojan made 64 saves in the loss.

Sunday the team fell 3-2 in a tightly contested battle with the Red Deer North Star Chiefs. Tyson Buchan and Devin Johnson potted goals for the Storm. Tye Georgeson made 34 saves in a losing effort.

The losses send the Storm to a record of 1-6-3 on the season.

Up next: The Storm will host the Lloydminster Bobcats on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. Both games will be played at the Coca Cola Centre.

Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm

The Bantam AAA squad claimed a win and a loss in weekend action.

On Saturday, the Storm fell to the Parkland Athletic Club Saints 3-2. Kyler Watson and Spencer Rheaume scored for GPAC in the loss.

Sunday the team picked up a 3-0 shutout victory over the Leduc Woodbend Oil Kings. All the Storms goals came in the final period, coming off the sticks of Connor Bak, Watson and Cade Reber. Vaughn Kaliel made 36 saves for the shutout.

The Storm now sit with a record of 5-2-3, and sit in third in the Charger North Division.

Up next: The Storm will host the St Albert Sabres for a pair of games next weekend. Saturday they’ll meet at the Coke Centre at 4:30 p.m. Sunday they’ll play at 10 a.m. at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.

PCFAC Midget Elite Storm

The Women’s squad was on home ice for a pair of games against the Edmonton Pandas at the Crosslink County Sportsplex this weekend.

On Saturday the Pandas took a 7-3 victory. Arilyn Toews scored twice for the Storm, while Kaitlyn Sandul scored the other in the loss.

Sunday the team picked up their first win of the season, edging the Pandas 2-0. Jailyn Bablitz and Charlieze Sallis scored in the win. Grace Lutz made 29 saves for the shutout.

The Storm are now 1-4-0 on the season.

Up next: The Storm will host the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. at the Coca Cola Centre.
