One locally-owned horse finished in the money at quarter -horse racing’s biggest day Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

GetIt Hot, owned by Grande Prairie’s Chuck Stojan, finished second in the $154,750 (US) Derby Challenge Championship for three-year-olds.

The even-money favourite, Valiant Tiberias, took first.

Another Stojan horse, Stripsteak, finished sixth in Challenge Championship while another horse from his stable, True Copy, finished seventh in the Distaff Challenge.

The fourth qualifier from this summer’s races at Evergreen Park to run in New Mexico, Gone to Be Bright, wound up fifth in the Distance Challenge.

The thoroughbreds will be running at their richest weekend of racing, the Breeders Cup, Friday and Saturday at Santa Anita in California.
