Seniors community ready for visit from little trick or treaters

Oct 31, 2019 | 6:24 AM

Prairie Lake Seniors Community is opening it’s doors for little trick or treaters from 1:30 to 3:30 this afternoon.

Families will be welcome into the community, where residents will hand out candy to the little superheros, princesses, ghosts and vampires.

Assistant General Manager of the Facility, Lindsey Kaczor, says it won’t be the traditional door to door trick or treating, as many residents have mobility issues, but they’ve found a way around that issue.

“What we’re doing, is we are setting [the residents] up in the lobby area. In our Sanctuary, we have a big open room. And they will be ready and waiting for the little trick or treaters.”

The trick or treaters and their parents will be invited inside to gather their candies, and visit with the residents. Kaczor says it’s really special for the residents to see the children, especially on Halloween, as many of them have been living in facilities for many years, and haven’t seen little costumed kids in some time.

The event only runs from 1:30 to 3:30, which Kaczor says is early, but intentional.

“We have more care partners on at that time to better facilitate things, and we also have some volunteer care partners that are coming in to help out. It just seemed to work out better for everyone to have it during the day time. And I know a lot of us are moms and dads here, and wanted our little ones to come in.”

She says some residents may try to stay down in the Sanctuary, along with some care workers, to greet the regular trick or treaters during the afternoon and evening.

The Prairie Lake Seniors Community is located at 11460 104 Avenue.
