Wozniak, Storm confident heading into weekend set with Pontiacs

Losers of six straight, the Grande Prairie Storm will be looking to right the ship as they open a weekend set at home against the Bonnyville Pontiacs tonight.

The Storm are coming off their second three game in three-day road trip of the season, where the team came out empty-handed, including an overtime loss last Saturday in Bonnyville to those very Pontiacs.

Now sitting in sixth place in the AJHL’s North Division with a record of 6-11-1, team captain Jackson Wozniak says his team knows they can hang with the Pontiacs and get themselves out of their slump.

“I think we’re feeling pretty confident right now,” said Wozniak. “We’re getting away from the excuse that we’re young. All guys have played a handful of games, so we’re just growing from there.”

Being in his first season as captain, helping motivate his teammates out of their funk and get back into the win column may be a new task he must take on, but it’s something the California-born forward is most certainly comfortable doing.

“For me, it’s just pulling guys under my wing and giving them tidbits of my experiences,” said Wozniak. “Just keeping everything positive. When there are times you need to get on guys, you need to get on guys. It’s just finding that balance for me.”

The team has also had trouble finding the back of the net of late, scoring just one goal in each of the three games on the road last weekend. Wozniak knows that once they get their scoring touch back, a lot of positive things will come their way.

“We’re all just waiting for the scoring to come, and we believe it will, and it will come in bunches. We’re just working everyday in practice, trying to find different ways to get pucks at the net.”

Puck drop from Revolution Place, both tonight and tomorrow against the Pontiacs, is 7:30 p.m.
