UPDATE: Winter storm watch upgraded to warning for the Peace Country

UPDATE (6:00 a.m. Nov. 8): The winter storm watch issued Thursday afternoon by Environment Canada has been upgraded to a warning. A watch is issued when the potential for such a storm exists. Warnings are issued when it is imminent or occuring.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for the following areas.

County of Grande Prairie near Beaverlodge, Hythe, Demmitt, Wembley, Sexsmith and La Glace.

The M.D. of Greenview near DeBolt, Little Smoky, O’Brien Provincial Park, Big Mountain Creek, Sturgeon Lake, Valleyview, New Fish Creek, Wapiti,and Shuttler Flats Rec. Area

Heavy snow is expected to come to Alberta beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend and tapering off on Sunday. Total snowfall may reach 30 to 40 cm.

Similar warnings are out for Fairview, Peace River, Manning, High Prairie, Fox Creek, and Whitecourt.

Environment Canada is warning of decreased visibility and potentially hazardous road conditions.

They are saying anyone who must travel should bring a winter emergency kit and a cellphone, as well as to let others know of their schedule.
