Athletics top Huskies in shootout

Nov 8, 2019 | 10:35 AM

They needed a shootout to do it, but the Grande Prairie Athletics moved to 2-0 to start the NPHL season.

Tanner Labbe and Chris Lannouette scored in regulation, while Lyndin Lewis and Sam Bosek scored in the shootout to lead the A’s to a 3-2 win over the Huskies in Grimshaw Thursday night.

Labbe and Lannouette both found the back of the net in the first period, giving the A’s a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The lead would hold until the midway point of the second, when Davis Rose got the Huskies on the board to cut the lead to one. Christian Kenny would then add a power play marker midway through the third to tie the game up and send it to overtime.

After the extra five minutes solved nothing, Lewis and Bosek would add their shootout markers to gives the Athletics back-to-back wins to open the season. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 0-1-1 to open the season.

Next up for the A’s is a home date with the Manning Comets on Saturday night at the Coca Cola Centre. Game time is 8:30.

The Huskies were set to face the High Prairie Regals on Saturday, but with news of the Regals having to fold operations, that game will no longer be played.
