Court update: Guilty pleas in three cases

Nov 12, 2019 | 4:30 AM

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie man charged in a child pornography case has pleaded guilty.

Justin Doucet entered the plea to possession of child pornography November 5 in Grande Prairie Court of Queen’s Bench.

Sentencing has been set for January 23.

Doucet was arrested in May of 2017 after a search of a Grande Prairie home two months before that.

Information from the National Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa that child pornography was being shared on social media sites led to the search.

Murder case ends with guilty plea to manslaughter

Alberta Justice says a Slave Lake man charged after a 2017 shooting death in Atikameg has pleaded guilty to a reduced charged.

Blake Anderson was given a 15-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter November 4 in Peace River court. He was also handed a lifetime firearms prohibition. The original charge was murder.

Anderson was charged after the January 14, 2017 shooting death of 32-year-old Jeff Gladue. He was killed outside of an Atikameg home.

Anderson was arrested in Edmonton 11 days after Gladue’s death.

Two other people had been facing murder charges as well. The count against Patrick Letendre was withdrawn June 12, 2017, while a stay of proceedings was put in place January 29, 2018, for Ivy Ardis Laboucan.

One year each for two men charged in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says two men charged in a Grande Prairie drug case have each been given one year in jail.

Blake Philip Burrows and Zachary Clinton Edwards-Swanson each pleaded guilty to one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in Grande Prairie court October 29.

Other charges against the pair were withdrawn.

They were arrested after a search of two Grande Prairie homes in August of 2018 turned up 122 grams of cocaine, 24 grams of heroin, LSD, Oxycontin, fentanyl, a loaded handgun, and more than $50,000 cash.
