Lethbridge taxi reportedly stolen at knife-point

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two women have been charged in connection to an armed robbery and the theft of a vehicle.

A Lethbridge Police officer was flagged down by an injured man in the Tim Hortons parking lot on Mildred Dobbs Boulevard at 7:40 am on Monday, November 11th.

The 68-year-old told police that he was robbed by two women and had his taxi stolen.

The investigation determined that the victim was dispatched to pick up a customer at the 7-Eleven on 13th Street North.

When the two women got into the cab, one of them produced a knife and said the other was armed with a gun. They allegedly threatened to harm the driver.

The driver stopped the vehicle, and after a brief physical altercation, he was able to escape. The suspects reportedly stole the cab and the driver’s belongings, including cash, a tablet, and a cell phone.

The driver was treated by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries.

The stolen cab was found unoccupied in a northside alley. Two sets of footprints lead police to a home on the 2000 block of 13th Ave North.

One was arrested in the home, while another was apprehended at a cordon point that was set up along 5th Ave and Mayor Magrath Drive North.

The stolen items were recovered.

Kimberlie Rose Eagle Speaker, 31, of Lethbridge, is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, theft of a vehicle, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of a recognizance. She was released on a promise to appear in court November 13th.

Jessica Mae Eagle Speaker, 38, of Lethbridge, is charged with robbery, uttering threats, theft of a vehicle and possession of a dangerous weapon. She was released by a Justice of the Peace and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18.
