Spring Creek Road reopened, with conditions
Crews have finished preliminary slope and repair work on a section of Township Road 711, known as Spring Creek Road, and the road has now reopened to traffic.
Traffic is still limited to 30 km/h in the section, and there is a road ban in place for 50 per cent axle weight.
The section of road, which crosses Spring Creek, was closed after repeated wet spring seasons caused the slope to slide, making the road and bridge unstable. The preliminary work to relieve the pressure and allow water to flow through the culvert is now complete, and the section of road is once again safe to use.
More work still needs to be done to fully repair the section, but the County of Grande Prairie is awaiting federal permits from Fisheries and Oceans Canada in order to enter Spring Creek and complete the bridge rehabilitation project. These permits are required for any work that could impact a body of water.
